Capping Deauville's August festival on Sunday, Haras de Saint Pair's Glycon (Fr) (Le Havre {Ire}) justified 9-10 favouritism to prove a popular winner of the feature G2 Lucien Barriere Grand Prix de Deauville. Asked to go beyond a mile and a quarter for the first time when taking the G3 Prix de Reux over this track and 12 1/2-furlong trip on his latest outing Aug. 8, the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained homebred was patiently ridden in rear early by Cristian Demuro. Launched to take command 300 metres from the finish, the 9-10 favourite saw off The Good Man (Fr) (Manduro {Ger}) to score by half a length, with Sublimis (Ire) (Shamardal) a short neck away in third. “It was a truly-run race which helped and although the horse on the inside gave a good fight in the end he won very nicely,” Rouget said. “We finally found out his best trip and we'll keep him around that now and see where we go next.”

Glycon, who had taken the G3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte in September and was sent up in trip after finishing sixth in the G3 La Coupe at ParisLongchamp June 13, is a son of Glorious Sight (Ire) (Singspiel {Ire}) who sold for €1.7million at the 2011 Arqana Arc Sale. Successful in the Listed Prix Finlande and placed in the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches and G1 Prix de Diane, she is out of Zelding (Ire) (Warning {GB}) who captured the G3 Prix du Bois before also producing the G2 Prix du Gros-Chene winner Beauty Is Truth (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}). She is in turn responsible for the G1 English and Irish 1000 Guineas heroine Hermosa (Ire), the G1 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares S. and G1 Matron S. winner Hydrangea (Ire) and the G1 Ranvet S. hero The United States (Ire) all by Galileo (Ire). Also responsible for the triple group winner and G1 Moyglare Stud S. runner-up Free Lily (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), she hails from the family of the G1 Coronation S. and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois winner Immortal Verse (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) who in turn is responsible for Ballydoyle's exciting Tenebrism (Caravaggio), the G2 Prix Robert Papin winner and G1 Middle Park S. runner-up Zipping (Ire) (Zafonic) and the GI Breeders' Cup Mile hero and leading sire Last Tycoon (Ire). Glorious Sight's last known foal is the winning Chad Brown-trained 3-year-old filly Zoikes (Fr) (Dubawi {Ire}) who was a 450,000gns Book 1 purchase.
